1255-1318 Italian Duccio di Buoninsegna Locations Italian painter. He was one of the most important painters of the 14th century and like his slightly younger contemporary, Giotto, was a major influence on the course of Italian painting. An innovator, he introduced into Sienese painting new altarpiece designs, a dramatic use of landscape, expressive emotional relationships, extremely complex spatial structures and a subtle interplay of colour. Irish-born American Realist Sculptor, 1848-1907, He was the Irish-born American sculptor of the Beaux-Arts generation who most embodied the ideals of the "American Renaissance." Raised in New York City, he traveled to Europe for further training and artistic study, and then returned to major critical success in the design of monuments commemorating heroes of the American Civil War, many of which still stand. In addition to his famous works such as the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial on Boston Common and the outstanding grand equestrian monuments to Civil War generals John A. Christoph Amberger
(c. 1505 --1562) was a painter of Nernberg in the 16th century, a disciple of Hans Holbein, his principal work being the history of Joseph in twelve pictures. Amberger travelled to Northern Italy and Venice between 1525 and 1527. He died in Augsburg.
